Melbourne leads in real estate as property market hits $6 trillion

The Australian property market has hit the $6 trillion mark, but Melbourne has overtaken Sydney as the country’s best performer. Home values across Australia’s capital cities pushed another 2.8 per cent higher in July and have lifted 11.1 per cent during the past year, data released by CoreLogic RP Data shows. In the year to July, the market grew by half a trillion dollars, CoreLogic RP Data head of research Tim Lawless said.

Canberra property values increase 4.9 per cent in year to July

Residential property values in Canberra rose more than all Australian capital cities, except Sydney and Melbourne, in the calendar year to July, with a 4.9 per cent increase, new figures show. But year-on-year figures published by the CoreLogic RP Data Home Value Index put Canberra behind all but two capital cities – Perth and Darwin – with a 1.2 per cent increase in capital growth when compared with the previous July.
