Australian Turf Club confirms plans to redevelop parcel of land at Canterbury Park Racecourse

The Australian Turf Club is considering selling a large parcel of land across the road from Canterbury Park Racecourse. The racetrack has been flagged as a “significant opportunity” for redevelopment by the State Government in its new vision for revitalising southwest Sydney. Plans to sell some of the prized land puts a question mark over the whole track, which could be sold for up to $500 million.

U.S. mortgage rates saw an uptick in past week, yet remain under 4 percent, according to Freddie Mac. The average 30-year fixed mortgage averaged 3.82 percent for the week ending Oct. 8, up from 3.76 percent the previous week.

Real estate jitters hit auctions as Sydney and Melbourne show signs of cooling

The Sydney and Melbourne property markets are showing signs of cooling off, with auction clearance rates dropping over the past week. Auction clearance rates in Sydney fell to 65.1% over the past week, the lowest in three years, with 530 out of 874 listed properties selling. Clearance rates in Melbourne were 73%, with 957 sales out of 1,233 listed properties.

Home-building to peak in early 2016, Property Council says

The housing construction boom hasn't yet run out of steam and completions of new homes are likely to peak early next year, before following the approvals rate lower, the Property Council of Australia says. Completions, which jumped 19 per cent to 189,239 in the year to June as new housing starts also rose to a record, will keep rising in the short term, the lobby group predicts in its latest Residential Development Outlook.
