Kelly Qualtrough of Queensland Sotheby's International Realty - Brisbane Ascot once sold a home with so much junk the buyers couldn’t even get into the bedrooms.
Ms Qualtrough worked in the beauty industry for 15 years before venturing into real estate.
How did you start out in real estate? Have you always worked in the industry, or did you do something else previously?
I started out in the hair and beauty industry having three salons for a period of 15 years and then made the move over to real estate which I found an easy transition.
I was already working Saturdays for 15 years, it was just a new business and people. I instantly loved it.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Helping people. Moving is not always a exciting time, it can be very stressful if you haven’t got the right support around you. I love being that support.
Can you tell us about an interesting property you’ve sold?
There have been so many but one that comes to mind is in Kedron.
The seller was a seriously crazy collector of anything and everything.
We had to sell it as is, the buyers couldn’t even get into the bedrooms.
The entry and hall ways where lined to the ceiling with books and a tiny space to walk down.
I am still amazed I found a buyer to look past all the junk.

If you could change one thing about the real estate industry, what would it be?
The entry level needs to rise, it is very easy to enter the Industry.
I think about 80 per cent of people that started real estate are no longer in it in 12 months time.
That’s just not enough training.

What’s your outlook for the property market in Brisbane for the next 12-18 months?
I feel it will hold its own, I don’t see any big growth, just steady.
Queensland has its highest immigration numbers due to Sydney and Melbourne being so highly priced. The market will be stable.
Where do you live now, and what would be your dream home if you could live anywhere in the world?
I live at Stafford Heights and my dream place to live would be on a luxury house boat cruising the Murray River during summer and into Port Douglas for the winter.
