Speaking to LUXURY LIST WEEKEND, Suzie Hunt from Suzanne Hunt Architect said inspiration for the project came from understated Japanese design.

“This amazing project was a gift for our practice and such a joy to work on. We have always enjoyed returning to visit over the last 10 years," Suzie explained.

"The brief was for a home that nestled comfortably in the amazing site. Designed for aging, there are no steps, with seamless transitions between the pavilions. The design directed a minimal material selection which evokes a feeling of calm and tranquility."

Carved into the hillside, three single level stone and timber pavilions, topped with Canadian slate are anchored by a vast, curvilinear rammed earth wall extending through the home and encircling the Contemplation Garden.

Beautiful light infused interiors blend with timeless materials and a true connection to the outdoors offering breathtaking panoramic views across the valley, with a soothing palette of natural materials comprising WA grey basalt and rammed earth walls made from crushed boulders from the site, Bacagli mushroom travertine floors, Victorian Ash ceilings and timber batten walls, eveneer Walnut veneer panelling and environmentally certified Burmese Teak for window and door frames.

Within the main pavilions, perfectly integrated areas bring family together for entertaining and relaxing, yet provide distinct spaces for study, sleep and solitude. Open plan family spaces are expansive, yet clearly defined by function, while floor to ceiling glass with frameless corner windows present the all-encompassing landscape as artwork.

The fourth pavilion is a completely self-contained two-bedroom guest house, with expansive living/dining/ kitchen overlooking the valley. The final pavilion contains a 20m heated lap pool tiled with Bizazza Italian mosaic tiles and featuring a hand designed galaxy of stars in the ceiling, representing The Milky Way.

Outside, pavilions are connected by Koi ponds, timber decking and stone paths wending their way through sculpted Japanese influenced gardens.
