An all female final is looming at the 2018 Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW) Novice Auctioneers Competition for the first time, according to the REINSW.
REINSW President Leanne Pilkington said the first three heats have been taken out by women with a strong possibility a female competitor could take out the fourth, to be held in Wollongong tonight.
With three female competitors currently lined up for tonights heat, Pilkington said its exciting to see so many women taking part.
"At the halfway mark of our Novice Auctioneers Competition, its exciting to see such a strong representation of our female auctioneers," she said.
"Once a male dominated field in the profession, the dynamic and theatrical nature of auctioneering is seeing the rise of women auctioneers.
"This year's competition sees 31 novice auctioneers currently registered to take part in six heats with 11 female competitors," Ms Pilkington said.
The first heat of the Novice Auctioneers Competition was taken out by former investment banker, Joanne Dai. The second heat in Sydney was won by Karen Harvey, who recently qualified as a real estate agent and studied the auctioneer license course at REINSW. Real estate trainer Lisa Liberatore won the Caste Hill Novice Auctioneers Competition heat.
First-time auctioneer Joanne Dai, decided to make the switch to real estate after a long career as an investment banker.
"I am new to the industry and decided to enter to challenge myself and gain new skills to equip myself to keep up with a constantly evolving market," she said.
“I was very nervous, but the crowd was great! Everyone was so supportive toward the charity and a first time auctioneer like myself. I was really surprised when I won but really proud because its so great to see a lady's footprint in a male dominant field," she said.
Meanwhile, six finalists have been chosen from a field of 14, who contested yesterday's heats, to compete in the REIV 2018 Senior Auctioneer of the Year final today.
The finals for the 2018 REINSW Novice Auctioneers Competition will be held at 6 pm on 28 June 2018 at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney.
