Other events have been COVID-cancelled but the REINT 2020 Awards for Professional Excellence are still going ahead, REINT CEO Quentin Kilian told WILLIAMS MEDIA.
It was only a few weeks out from the REIA National Awards for Excellence, that were to be hosted by the REINT this year, but then COVID-19 struck.
"In April of this year the REINT was due to host the REIA National Awards for Excellence, and we came so close to making that happen," said REINT CEO Quentin Kilian to WILLIAMS MEDIA.
"Just weeks out from the event COVID19 hit hard and governments shut down venues and travel, so unfortunately the event was cancelled.
"At that time we were really concerned about the flow-on effect to all other events throughout the year, including the Northern Territory awards night.
"While we had to cancel a few events, such as our annual Corporate Golf Day, our awards night has powered ahead."
Mr Kilian said there has been such a resurgence in the real estate market in Darwin during the pandemic period, along with a desire to break out from the doom and gloom, that nothing will stop the REINT 2020 Awards for Professional Excellence on Saturday, October 3, 2020 and a chance to celebrate.
"We have had to alter our venue as the normal venue, on the beautiful beachfront at the Mindil Beach Casino, is still closed, so this year we are holding the event in the new and luxurious $12 million grandstand at the Darwin Turf Club," said Mr Kilian.
"We are looking forward to recognising and celebrating the excellence and professionalism of the Northern Territory’s real estate community and having some fun.
"I would say I am looking forward to ‘letting our hair down’, but for some of us, that is a physical impossibility.
We want to reward our Members for triumphing over what has been a horrid year."
Mr Kilian said the Northern Territory is COVID free and has been for some time.
"This enables us to have larger gatherings, while still maintaining sensible precautions, and the REINT Members have embraced this with over 250 booked – which is a full house," said Mr Kilian.
"This is perhaps the most positive feedback that we could have received.
"We are not able to bring big name performers up from the Southern states to appear, as we have done in past years, and we have had to compromise on the venue, but still our members have turned out in droves.
"We have 21 judges from across Australia, thanks to digital technology and this year, the first ever international judge, being the CEO from the Bridge Real Estate Institute, California in the US.
"We are not sure how the 2021 national awards will operate, but we are looking forward to having some amazing talent represent the Northern Territory again next year."

"To say I am surprised is an understatement, I am completely blown away by the nomination, and to be recognised amongst some of our industry leaders is very humbling," said Ms Lynch.
"TI would like to think that it is my genuine, kind nature that comes through each interaction as to why I have been nominated this year.
"There have been a lot of first home buyers this year for me and I have enjoyed taking the extra care walking them through each part of the process ensuring they are fully aware and informed every step of the way.
Ms Lynch was asked to sum up how the year has been for her.
"2020, a year to reflect on all that is good in the world, to focus on what is really important in life such as family, friends and neighbours alike with kindness and compassion."
