Melbourne agency Nelson Alexander is preparing to give back to the community this month through its annual Foundation Day.
Nelson Alexander auctions held on May 25 will carry benefits which go beyond buyers and sellers, as the agency holds its annual Foundation Day.
An initiative of the Nelson Alexander Charitable Foundation, each of the 17 offices across the northern suburbs of Melbourne will donate the professional fee from one of their auctions to a chosen charity.
The beneficiaries of this year's Foundation Day consist of a mix of volunteer organisations and educational institutions, including Ascot Vale Special School, Brunswick South West Primary School, Ronald McDonald House Parkville, 1st Coburg Scout Group, Save the Children, EB Research Foundation, Starlight Children’s Foundation, Giant Steps, plus many more.
Nelson Alexander Foundation Administrator Kerryn Donchi said the day was an opportunity to show that the agency was about more than selling real estate.
"Our staff want to engage with the community and raising funds for local groups is very important," she said.
"We want to be deeply involved with the groups that are operating within our footprint."
Foundation Day has raised $2.75 million for community groups since it first began more than 10 years ago.
It is part of a two-tiered fundraising strategy for the foundation, which also distributes monthly grants.
Last year, the foundation raised $361,000 for groups in the area, of which about $270,000 came from the Foundation Day.
Ms Donchi said the foundation was not just about supporting groups.
"As a charity, we give help where it is needed," she said.
"We support groups through our Foundation Day, but can also support individuals through our monthly grants."
