The Real Estate Institute of Western Australia is hosting a free information night about starting a career in real estate.
The free information night, to be held on Wednesday 6th June at 5.30pm at REIWA Training Headquarters in WA, will cover everything you need to know about beginning a career in real estate, from the current industry requirements to the skills and education needed to get started.
REIWA CEO, Neville Pozzi, told WILLIAMS MEDIA that REIWA is committed to increasing professionalism in the industry.
"REIWA is committed to increasing the ongoing training and development of our practitioners. The regulator determines the requirements for registration and licensing. REIWA believes the highest possible standards should apply to the educational requirements," he said.
"Initially, you need to complete a registration course which will entitle you to work as a sales representative or a property manager for a licensed real estate agent. Get registered with the regulator Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) and you are ready to start working.
"The next step, should you want to become a licensed real estate agent, would be to complete further training in a Diploma of Property Services (Agency Management). You will also need to have a minimum of two years’ experience working in the industry when applying to the Regulator for your agent's license," he said.

While a career in real estate can be challenging, Mr. Pozzi told WILLIAMS MEDIA it's also extremely rewarding if you work hard.
"Starting a career in real estate can be intimidating at first, but if you have the right traits and skills it can be one of the most rewarding careers with infinite room for growth individually and professionally. There is something in it for everyone, meaning you can come from whatever background, occupation or lifestyle and start a career in real estate.

"If you want a constantly challenging and rewarding career, then becoming a real estate agent might be your calling. The real estate market never dies and is always changing which is very exciting when your work depends on it. It doesn’t take long to become an expert on your local real estate area.
"There are many varied career pathways within the real estate industry. To succeed, good communication skills, being an all-around people person, having the mindset of a problem solver, being self-motivated with good attention to detail and the ability to engage with your clients is an asset. Obviously, an understanding of the housing market and an interest in houses and architecture is also helpful. Above all, it is important to be ethical, honest and have the integrity to be able to build long-lasting relationships," he said.

Brett Hancock, a graduate from the REIWA registration courses, commented that the training he received set him up for a successful career.
“I completed the sales registration course online with REIWA Training while still working full-time and transitioning from another career. The staff and trainers made the transition and my learning experience as seamless as possible. They were so helpful and encouraging. I would recommend REIWA Training to anyone considering a career in real estate. They certainly made a difference in my world and they will make a difference in yours," he said.
