The REIT celebrated Tasmania's best in the industry last night at the 2017 Awards for Excellence in Hobart.
The Real Estate Institute of Tasmania held the 2017 Annual Awards for Excellence on Saturday night at the Grand Chancellor Hotel in Hobart.
There was a lot to celebrate this year. In 2017, Tasmanian property prices grew more rapidly than any other state's, as the apple isle's temperate climate, relative affordability, and spectacular natural environment came into focus for buyers from both interstate and overseas.
The CoreLogic Hedonic Home Value Index shows Tasmania's property prices rose 14.3 per cent in the year ended 30 September, compared with only 10.5 per cent for Sydney, and 12.1 per cent for Melbourne.
Mark Berry, CEO of the REIT, said this year was one of the toughest competitions with the closest scores ever between the nominees.
Mention was made of Tasmanian Andrew Briffa's win at the 2017 Schools Auctioneering Championship, which was held in September in Adelaide. Briffa, who is still at school at Launceston Church Grammar School, won first place under the guidance of mentor David Jackson from the REIT. It was the second year in a row a Tasmanian has taken home the coveted prize, with Carlton Heres from Scotch Oakburn College winning in 2016.
Tony Collidge, President of REIT, said although it has been a demanding year for the Tasmanian real estate industry, it was the biggest awards attendance yet.
