Robert Downey Jnr has bought a 19th-century 'windmill house' in the Hamptons.
Robert Downey Jnr has purchased the 19th-century Edward DeRose Windmill Cottage in East Hampton.
Never actually operated as a windmill, the home was built in 1885 to resemble the windmills that dotted the area in that era.
The purchase price is said to be US$10.5 million (or the equivalent of $14 million).
The home is clad in cedar shingles, and features small, multi-paned windows in a traditional style. The windmill tower is flanked by two large Cape Cod-style wings, creating a seven-bedroom mansion.
The Hamptons was once an artists' colony, but is now best known for its luxury mansions on vast estates owned by celebrities.
The house comes with its own movie pedigree: it was used as a set in the movie 'Deathtrap' - made in 1982 and starring Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve.
