Cate Blanchett and her playwright husband Andrew Upton have sold their environmentally friendly Hunters Hill home, Bulwarra, for a second time.
The house sold for $19.8 million to a Chinese buyer in 2015, through Ken Jacob's of Christie's International, but the sale fell through. The sale coincided with the Chinese crackdown on capital outflows.
Jacobs has not disclosed the sale price, but the property has been on the market for $20 million.
The house is renowned for its tranquil, environmentally friendly design, the result of a collaboration between Nadine Alwill of Alwill Design and Dr Stephen Lesiuk of Lesiuk Architects. Will Dangar designed the sprawling gardens that extend to the waterfront.
The sale price is expected to be a record for Hunters Hill. Blanchett and Upton bought the house for $10 million in 2005, and are said to have spent more than $8 million on the renovation.
The artistic couple now spend most of their time at their home in East Sussex in the UK. Blanchett is currently starring in the Broadway season of Upton's 'The Present', an adaption of Chekov's 'Platonov' and a Sydney Theatre Company production.
