The Block auction went to air last night, revealing that near record prices were achieved for the historic apartments.
Glamorous couple Will and Karlie, who are both only 25 years old, won The Block last night, after their large ground-floor apartment at 164 Ingles Street, Port Melbourne, sold for $2.6 million, netting them a profit of $815,000, after taking the $100,000 prize money into account.
The win is the second highest in the history of the show, when Darren and Deanne won $935,000 in season 10.
Will and Karlie's was the first apartment to be auctioned, which may have worked to their advantage, as several bidders were interested in more than one apartment in the former soap factory.
But the outdoor space and terrace, and the couple's clever eye for detail, were also strong drawcards.
Julia and Sasha sold their apartment for $2.59 million, netting them $660,000 profit. The pressure appeared to almost overwhelm Sasha, who had to leave the room immediately after the auction.
Dan and Carleen, the oldest couple on The Block, used their style and experience to make a $525,000 profit on their apartment, which sold for $2.49 million.
Two primary school teachers, who had almost no renovating experience, sold their apartment for $2.25 million to an underbidder of one of the previous apartments. The couple said they would be happy to make a year's teacher salary, but instead they took home $510,000. The enthusiastic and popular couple were ecstatic.
Chris and Kim, parents from Newcastle, made a profit of $425,000 from their $2.305 million sale. Asked if they would accept a lower offer, Chris said, "We're not greedy" in a display of grace under pressure. In the end, the price went higher anyway.
