Hayden Groves has announced he will be finishing his three year term as President of the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia today.
Hayden Groves, who will remain on the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) Council, was elected as President in 2015 having served on the Council since 2010.
He will participate in the strategic direction of the institute going forward, but doesn’t plan to hold any office bearer positions at state level in the future.
Mr Groves said he would remain on the national board of the Real Estate Institute of Australia going forward.
“While serving as president I alerted members of the REIWA of the dangers of intermediaries who are looking to disrupt the industry,” Mr Groves told WILLIAMS MEDIA.
“These commercial enterprises don’t add any significant value to real estate or the consumer.
“I have been very vocal and critical of these groups during my tenure and have had some success in convincing REIWA members to reconsider taking leads from these intermediaries.”

Mr Groves said he is most of proud of introducing member engagement representatives to the REIWA, as opposed to BDM managers which the institute used to have.
“We doubled the resources given to member engagement so all members had greater care provided to them, their businesses, and staff by member engagement representatives of the institute.
“When I first became president I introduced that concept and the chief executive officer doubled the resources provided to that side of the business, which has been very well received.”
Mr Groves has been president for three years, and said the most challenging component has been the last three years experiencing the worst transactional activity in Western Australian real estate.
“It’s been a very challenging time for the WA property market. We’ve seen state migration slow, less demand from buyers and tenants, increased stock levels and subdued transactional activity.

“Somewhat unusually, no sector of the market has been spared the malaise, although tenants and buyers have benefited from improved affordability. Thankfully the worst appears to be behind us and I am hopeful a recovery is on the horizon.”
The 100th annual general meeting, where Mr Groves announced the end of his term, also saw the results of the ballot for Council positions announced, with all four re-nominating Councillors returned to their positions.
REIWA’s Council includes:
Suzanne Brown (Rentwest) [Re-elected]
