The demand for quality, trained property management staff greatly outweighs the supply, says Jody Marsden, co-founder and managing director of The Property Management Academy Australia.
Jody Marsden and Michelle Delaney, with more than 50 combined years of property management experience between them, have joined forces to launch The Property Management Academy Australia - a comprehensive training courses for property managers that will produce job-ready graduates.
"I decided to start TPMAA as I was experiencing difficulty sourcing good quality well trained property management staff," TPMAA managing director Jody Marsden, told WILLIAMS MEDIA.
"Particularly when recruiting for property managers, it was both time consuming and extremely competitive to fill the roles, and as the years passed, the challenge became greater," she said.
What will students learn?
"The students will learn absolutely all aspects of how to be a property manager," explained Marsden. From sourcing good tenants, to new business and trust accounting, all aspects of the industry will be covered.
Learning will occur both in the classroom and in a fully functioning real estate office.
Students will complete the course with their Office of Fair Trading registration certificate, and be job ready the day they finish.

About the founders
Marsden has worked in the property management industry for over 21 years. She began her real estate career with Ray White Toowong in 1996, where she ended up team leader with more than 1,000 properties. In 2001 she opened her own business at Ray White Bulimba, which saw such success she opened Ray White offices at Morningside, Tingalpa, and Manly.
Training and nurturing staff is Marsden's passion.
"Throughout my career I trained hundreds of staff who had never worked in real estate before to become highly successful real estate people and business owners," she said.
Delaney has more than 30 years' experience in property management. She was responsible for performance and growth in Ray White Newcastle's 10-office network. In 2003, Delaney joined Ray White's corporate team in Brisbane as the national group executive for operations of property management BDEs. In 2014, Delaney was promoted to the role of general manger of the Living Here Group.
Delaney has trained thousands of property managers, business owners, and business development staff over the course of her career.
Industry response "fantastic"
Marsden says the industry response to TPMAA has been "fantastic".
"Principals are contacting me asking for graduates already. The students will be snapped up," she said.
"I am hoping TPMAA will fill a very large gap in the industry, and resolve the staff shortages and increasing wage costs that employers are facing," she said.
"I also hope to improve consistency in property management and provide better customer service."
"But more importantly," she explained, "I want people to invest in a training course that actually will provide a great job opportunity when they finish, which can lead to an amazing career like I have experienced."
