"As we approach Christmas, there is no better feeling than to give back," says Simone Azzi of Belle Property Annandale.
On Sunday 17 December, Simone Azzi, agent with Belle Property Annandale, is organising the 'Big Christmas Feed' for the Sydney CBD's homeless community.
"For years I have wanted to get involved with a charity or foundation, but the majority of the big names require you to take specific courses and do programs before you can be on the front line and give back," she told SCHWARTZWILLIAMS.
As a busy mother of two, real estate agent, and small business owner, this wasn't the way Azzi wanted to operate.
"I wanted to give back, so I decided to do it my way," she said.
"I am expecting up to 200 men and women" to the event, and possibly more when the community hears of the "exciting things" that will be on offer, she said.
"I have hustled really hard and so thrilled with the response from some major companies who have agreed to get on board."
"We have Gelato Messina providing ice-cream for dessert, Little Marionette Coffee is setting up a coffee cart, Woofy’s is serving 200 portions of hot dogs and tacos, and so many more.
"We are also planning a tent called the ‘The Pantry’ which will have lots of fresh fruit provided by Harris Farm, shelf stable foods like tuna, noodles and snack bars as well as personal care items like shampoo, toothbrushes, baby wipes," said Azzi.
Azzi believes the real estate industry has a special responsibility to help the homeless.
"As a real estate agent I am privileged to sell beautiful homes to lucky men and women who can afford them. I think we forget in our day-to-day life that there is a devastating number of Australians who are without a home, or live well below the poverty line.
"I wanted to make a difference and give back some of the good fortune I have been so blessed with," she said.
At the time of writing blankets, hats, tents, trestle tables, food (pizza, chickens, salads) and pantry supplies (tinned tuna, tin spaghetti, tinned baked beans, biscuits, muesli bars) are still needed.
