Still at school and holding down three jobs, Amy-lee Hay still found the time to compete in the Schools Auctioneering Championships. She told SCHWARTZWILLIAMS she hopes to own her own real estate agency one day.
Amy-Lee Hay was one of three finalists from South Australia in the 2017 Schools Auctioneering Championship this year.
The Schools Auctioneering Championship is an annual event held in conjuction with the Australasian Auctioneering Championship. It is designed to encourage students to consider a career in real estate.
This year, the finalists in the event were: Hay; the winner, Andre Briffa from Tasmania; Bailee Ha, winner of the encouragement award; Jordan Culham from Victoria; and Jake Tanner.
Hay, Ha, and Tanner are all from South Australia.

Hay is only 18 years of age, and though a year-12 student at Meningie Area School, manages to hold down three jobs and pursue her interests in football and interior decorating.
She spoke to SCHWARTZWILLIAMS about competing in the Schools Auctioneering Championship, and her career ambitions.
How did you first get interested in auctioneering?
I didn't even consider it until the REISA told me about it. I thank them so much for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime and opening so many doors for me!
How did you prepare for the competition?
I just went through my script daily multiple times to make sure I could give the best performance!
What was the highlight of the event for you?
The highlight was doing the auction. I love the whole process of auction and meeting people of the industry! Also spending time with my contestants. ☺️
Do you hope to pursue a career as an auctioneer?
Yes I would love to find a career in the industry I'm hoping to be one of the best auctioneers in the state and compete alongside the best in the country!
How the Schools Auctioneering Championship works
Competitors in the Schools Auctioneering Championship had to succeed in their REI state competitions to earn the right to compete at the national level.
“It was fantastic to see the students strut their stuff across the stage," said Greg Troughton, CEO of the REISA.
"All their schools should be proud of their talented young students," he said.
