A piece of Western Australia’s history has come to market for the first time with the State Government seeking proposals for a deserted Pilbara township that will drive social and economic benefits for WA’s North West.
The townsite of Cossack, a 30-minute drive north of Karratha, is surrounded by a coastal reserve. It rests on the Harding River and was the nation’s first North-West port, and where WA’s pearling industry originated.

The WA Government, through Registrations of Interest (ROI) jointly managed by LJ Hooker Commercial Perth and LJ Hooker Karratha, is inviting the private sector to conceptulaise and deliver a new era for the townsite. The townsite’s 12 heritage-listed buildings and nearby Jarman Island is included in the offering.

The scale of the townsite offering will be determined by the quality and vision of the ROIs.
Mr Siciliano said: “Cossack was a pivotal part of WA’s pearling industry, with a history dating back to the 19th century,” said Mr Siciliano.
