'Industrial luxe' apartments in Brisbane's Hawthorne are unique to the area.
Three apartments for sale at 7 Lindsay Street, Hawthorne, have an ‘industrial luxe’ design theme.
The apartments are not the “cookie cutter” design approach often seen in bigger apartment blocks around Brisbane, said Paul Liddy of Ray White East Brisbane, who is marketing the development.
Liddy said he expects the apartments will appeal to owner-occupier professional singles or couples, or “groovy” downsizers looking for a low-maintenance lifestyle close to the city.
Designer Helen Griffin of Urban Matter is developing the project with partner Glen Hannan. She has incorporated industrial features into the design, including polished concrete floors and concrete wall panels. A 5.5-metre-high ceiling in the living area creates a loft feel, and glass doors open onto the front balcony, New York-style.
The apartments feature a built-in dining table, an integrated fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, induction cooktop with tinted mirror glass splashback, two ovens, and top-of-the-range appliances including Bosch, Ilve and Liebherr.
Other features include herringbone-tiled bathrooms with rain showers in the master ensuites, ducted air-conditioning, an electric skylight with rain sensor, and a lift from the car park.
“While you might see this type of product in a suburb like New Farm,” said Griffin, “it’s a new style for the inner eastern suburbs. Having worked in this area for around 40 years, Glen and I knew there would be a strong market for it.”
The average floor space of the apartments is around 150sqm. Two of the apartments are three-bedrooms, three-bathrooms, while the biggest apartment has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and city views. All have custom kitchens, a study nook, ample storage space, generous living areas and a balcony with an integrated barbeque and fridge.
“These homes are very generous in size compared to other apartments on the market, with a standard three-bedroom apartment usually being 90 to 105 square metres,” Liddy said.
“They are on par with penthouse apartments or even a small house,” he said.
The Lindsay Street apartments are just off Hawthorne Road in what Liddy dubs the “Hawthorne Hub”. The Hawthorne cinemas are metres away, while a new $3.5 million luxury cinema is being developed across the road and is due to open soon. The popular Hawthorne Garage is across the road, and with plans for the area to be an entertainment precinct, more restaurants are earmarked for the area.
