A four-bedroom Northern Beaches home sold for $3.51 million, a record price Forestville. Sold by McGrath Forestville agents Karen Terry and Stephen Bock.
A four-bedroom Northern Beaches property held by the owners for 60 years has sold for a suburb record.
The auction of 9 Duke Street, Forestville saw the price soar above the $2.75 million reserve set by the executors of the deceased estate. The final bid of $3.51 million is the highest price paid in the northern Sydney suburb.
McGrath Forestville agents Karen Terry and Stephen Bock said the property was popular with buyers from across Sydney as well as a handful of expats punters. The pair had shown 177 groups through the home.
The privacy of the 1372-square-metre block was a major drawcard. That and the fact that the level land backs onto national park and has views of Middle Harbour, captured buyers’ interest.
“This particular home was unique for Forestville,” said Ms Terry. “Many of the registered bidders were not specifically looking in Forestville but this property brought them here.”
Ms Terry said Forestville is popular with families because of its easy commute to the city, Chatswood and the Northern Beaches. At the afternoon auction on Saturday, a crowd of 100 gathered on the lawn. Eighteen parties registered although only five raised their bidding paddles. The auction opened at $2.7 million.
The winning bidders didn’t attend the auction but used a buyer’s agent instead. Ms Terry said the privacy of the block is what drew them to Forestville.
The four adult children who were raised by their parents in the house attended the auction. It was an emotional day for them.
The property was described as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “Huge windows capture the bush outlook and water glimpses through the trees,” said Ms Terry. “It’s rare to see the harbour from Forestville.”
