A superbly designed and constructed 'beach shack' combines recycled timbers and corrugated iron with contemporary materials and fittings, and state-of-the-art appliances.
Welcome to the 21st century, with functional, sustainable, and luxurious living.
Paying homage to the traditional 'beach shack', this superbly designed and constructed coastal home combines recycled timbers and corrugated iron with contemporary materials, fittings, and state-of-the-art appliances.
This property is a unique, character-filled property that delivers a wonderfully comfortable and environmentally-responsible lifestyle.
Referred to as "The Heads' Shed" by the current owners the home was designed by internationally renowned environmental architect, Dr Phillip Roös to keep the sun out in summer and capture it in the winter.
Reflecting local character, it uses the traditional coastal colours of white and weathered timber with a fabulous feature wall in lounge area made from recycled timber from the old St. Kilda Pier.
The house is designed around a central courtyard with surrounding decking and a fire pit, inside features a thermal concrete floor, angled windows, pitched ceilings and exposed trusses. The superb living space showcases the magnificent gabled ceiling and light-filtering windows.
A low-maintenance native front garden, leads to an elevated deck and a huge sliding “barn” door, while the entry reveals the delightful central courtyard and an open-sided studio/garage with a tilt-up door.
Dr Roös told SCHWARTZWILLIAMS, “My vision of the Head’s Shed was that it creates a special sense of place, reflecting the local character of the old coastal beach shack homes in Barwon Heads, yet it still needs to represent the features of contemporary environmental design. The end result is that the Head’s Shed fuses together classical coastal shed architecture with visionary environmental contemporary architecture.”
Close to Barwon River, walking tracks, parks and sporting facilities. Walk or drive to town centre.
Fusing classical shed design with contemporary environmental architecture, this is a fascinating and appealing property in this friendly village by the sea.
