Owner/builder Michael Kassolos told WILLIAMS MEDIA that the most important thing, as the builder, was that the property was low maintenance.

“The brief to the architect was to build a low maintenance family home to suit a growing family. It was important to have different areas for adults and children to enjoy their own separate space.”

“After giving John our brief we were totally blown away when we saw his design. The whole block has been utilised and the 2m fence means the front garden is completely private.”

Architect John Contoleon told WILLIAMS MEDIA the home’s design provides a refuge from the busy lives of a young, growing family. 

“The design explores the contrast between work and life, public and private, solid and subtracted, open and closed, and light and shadow. Its brick and timber façade evokes the form and dappled light of a clay lantern that seemingly floats over the street. At different angles and times of the day, glimpses of movement and silhouette activate changes in the facade, allowing for a connection with the outside while still maintaining privacy from the street.”

On the lower level, living spaces flow from the front yard to the multiple outdoor entertaining areas, fully grassed yard and pool. This level features a fully ensuited guest room, media room and powder room as well as the natural stone kitchen, living and dining.

“The home gradually unfolds into spaces that assimilate the outdoors, with views to the valley and mountains beyond. Living spaces contrast with the screened face, offering an open and transparent sanctuary hidden away from the street,” John explained to WILLIAMS MEDIA.

On the upper level of the home, a spacious master suite includes a walk-through robe to ensuite with double showers, double vanities, makeup bench, separate toilet, and bathtub.

There are three further bedrooms with mirrored built-in robes and access to a main bathroom with separate toilet. An additional media room plus study desk are also on this level.
