Built for self by a master builder, the home was designed by architect Otto Cserhalmi, drawing inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright, particularly his Fallingwater residence in Pennsylvania.

Speaking to WILLIAMS MEDIA, owner Paul Cubelic said he and his wife, Marina built the house as a family home for themselves and their two sons to enjoy while they were growing up.

“I had previously worked with Otto on a warehouse conversion project in Annandale and wanted to enjoy living in an architect designed home,” Paul explained to WILLIAMS MEDIA.

“This is the perfect family home, with multiple areas for everyone to have their own space to work, rest and play, and with great communal areas to enjoy together.”

Paul describes the design which was completed 21 years ago, as ‘a statement of good timeless architecture’ featuring curves that allow the windows across the home to capture the light as the sun moves across the sky. Both Paul and Otto feel light is a valuable tool in people’s well being.

Paul’s father was also a builder who taught him to believe in old school construction with attention to detail, where things are built well to stand the test of time. “It is home that could not be replaced today on the same block of land,” Paul told WILLIAMS MEDIA.

“At the first brief Otto said he wanted every room to be an invitation before walking into the physical space. This is evident throughout, as each corner invites you to the next.”

Paul and Otto have maximised the benefits of the unique block of land with views from all five bedrooms. The dual-level home sits well in its environment, with earthy tones allowing it to blend in with the landscape.

Construction of the home was completed 14 years ago, and the space, outlook and amenity has been a constant joy to live in, but now that their boys are adults the Cubelic’s think the time is right for them to downsize.
