After 33 years at Independent Property Group, Stan Platis is leaving his role as Executive Director of Residential Sales.  

Stan began his property career as a sales agent in 1991 with Reg Daly Real Estate, before progressing to sales manager at Federation Real Estate and then principal at RO Wellsmore Tuggeranong, before joining Independent Corporate in 2005,

He says the real estate business has evolved significantly, but elements remain unchanged.

“Real estate is not about property, it’s about people,” he says.

“This industry teaches you about work and reward and creates lifelong relationships.

“I love the work and I love the people, and that will never change.”

Over the last 5+ years, Stan has prioritised a particular focus on changing the face and reputation of real estate to become more inclusive.

“There was a perception that real estate hours were untenable for women or people at home with young kids. But now with the help of technology more flexible work arrangements are possible.”

Stan says while the market is changing, successful careers in real estate are still attainable, if agents ensure they are covering the basics.

“As real estate agents, we are there to serve our clients, and as much as technology is great there isn’t an app which teaches about relationships. You learn that from dealing with people.”

“One of my greatest achievements has been coaching and mentoring agents who have gone on to become successful.

“I am excited that higher training standards are becoming paramount in real estate. We are an industry but a professional industry.”

While Stan is stepping down from the day-to-day operations at IPG, he will remain on the board of directors and continue in his role as Vice President of the Real Estate Industry ACT (REIACT), where he is a life member.

“IPG has provided me with opportunities and inspiration every day, and I can’t thank everyone enough for making the journey so special.”

Independent Property Group CEO Kylie Dennis has praised Stan’s commitment to his work and passion for the industry.
