What was the inspiration behind Studio Blooms?
My love of flowers began at an early age, pottering in the garden with my flower loving mother, pressing flowers between pages of encyclopedias and selling flower posies on our street (picked from the neighbours’ gardens).
After studying Interior Design, a sliding door moment led me into the world of flowers. Working under talented florists in Melbourne and Sydney I had a passion to start my own business to showcase my own style and love of flowers and their exquisite beauty.

When you work with a season-driven subject you always need a plan B, especially with our weather in Melbourne, but it’s immensely rewarding to see the beautiful results.
What is your favourite flower?
Magnolia for its exquisite fragrance and fragile nature. Lilac would have to come a close second again for its divine perfume and beautiful colour. Hard to stop there!
Source: Lucy BadeHow would you describe your style?
When you take a snapshot of my Instagram feed there is a lot of colour and a lot of beautiful standout blooms. I don’t like to overcrowd flowers with foliage - letting them shine and be appreciated for their individual beauty is number one on my mind when styling.
Colour and form are a huge part in choosing the flowers I work with also. Every flower design focuses on the exquisite beauty of each bloom combining texture with seasonal foliage.
Source: Lucy BadeWhat attracted you to join Kay & Burton Concierge’s team of trusted referral partners?
I pride myself on quality and professionalism in delivering high end flowers. When the opportunity arose to partner with Kay and Burton - a very well regarded, reputable business that is one of the best in Melbourne -it was an easy, seamless decision.
Where do you draw inspiration when asked to style a home or a room?
From the aesthetics of the room, architecture, artwork and textiles. My client’s style also plays a big part whether it be classic, elegant, stylish or edgy.
Source: Lucy BadeFrom home decoration, to corporate offices and events and weddings to simple ‘Thank You’ bouquets, how do you tailor arrangements to suit each client?
Flower arranging is very much a collaboration between myself and my client, whether big or small. From daily flowers to stunning wedding pieces and large-scale corporate events – no matter how big or small, they all require planning and collaboration.
No job is ever the same, thanks to the everchanging seasons that bring with them the variety in flowers and foliage.

The opportunity to live in Vanuatu opened my eyes to tropical flowers like never before, particularly beautiful bright, exquisite tropical flowers growing wild in rural areas.
The markets were filled everyday with fresh alpinia gingers, birds of paradise, heliconias, torch gingers, gardenias, water lilies, lotus pods and lotus flowers in abundance.
I would find myself gravitating to the mummas who were selling these flowers, chatting about their daily produce and life! The opportunity to use these beauties in numerous wedding arrangements in Port Vila was very memorable and special.
Source: Lucy BadeWhat is the most unusual/interesting brief you’ve been given?
To adorn a banana boat with tropicals for a Vanuatu wedding celebration - flowers picked from the local village with the help of the village!
Did you take it on?
Absolutely!
What geographic areas does Studio Blooms cover?
Studio Blooms is a floral studio based in Bayside but we service inner Melbourne and it’s not unusual to be packing the van on weekends to style weddings down the coast.
What do you enjoy in your down-time?
Between Studio Blooms and 4 children I love to find peace on the bay on my SUP. Myself and nature, heaven.

Basically anything to do with nature, always cleansing and a good reset. Life is bliss if spent close to nature.
