LUXURY LIST WEEKEND spoke to Nicky Capicchiano about the business.
Source: Nicky CapicchianoDescribe what you do in two sentences.
I am an interior stylist, specialising in (but not limited to) furnishing apartments and townhouses for executive leasing. We work closely with real estate agents, property developers, and owner/investors to provide individually tailored packages ranging from complete furniture fit-outs to refurbishments.
Source: Corporate FurnishingsWhat was the inspiration behind Corporate Furnishings?
Some 15 years ago we purchased an apartment as an investment and furnished it for the executive leasing market. One of the directors at Kay & Burton really liked the way I had presented it and approached me to do further work for them in the corporate leasing market. Corporate Furnishings was born and some 150+ apartment fit-outs later it is still going strong.
Source: Corporate FurnishingsWhat attracted you to join Kay & Burton Concierge’s team of trusted referral partners?
I had already established strong relationships with many of the staff at Kay & Burton prior to the launch of Concierge and it just seemed like a natural progression to continue working with them.
How would you describe your design style?
Contemporary, modern, subtle sophistication, non-gender specific. The tenants who occupy these apartments can vary so I try to use lots of muted colours and furnishings to appeal to a broad range of people.
Source: Corporate FurnishingsHow do you individualise each project?
With each project I generally have 'three' parties that I have to consider: the owner who is entrusting me to furnish their apartment (and thus maximise their investment/return), the prospective tenant, and the agent who is responsible for leasing the property, I always endeavour to please them all.
Other things I take into account are the type of building/property I am working on and budget. Some buildings are older and more iconic such as The Domain and Royal Domain Tower, whilst other are very modern, like Australia 108. We also consider whether it’s an apartment or penthouse and the number of bedrooms. The budget can vary greatly, which is therefore reflected in the style/quality of the furnishings.

Yes, in some respects. There is more of a demand to provide 'home office space' in the apartments, but the need to furnish the space so that it provides a warm and homely feel remains paramount (even before the pandemic).
Source: Nicky CapicchianoWhat is the most unusual/interesting brief you’ve been given?
I once had a client request that I furnish the apartment with everything ‘white’ as that was their favourite 'look'.
Did you take it on?
No. I had to explain to the client that the fit out wasn't for them and that whilst it may be a 'look' that they are fond of it is not for everyone.
Source: Corporate FurnishingsDo you have a funny/scary story about a project?
Not really. I have just completed an apartment that is on the 76th floor and whilst I am not afraid of heights I did find working 'up in the clouds' quite challenging at first.
What geographic areas does Corporate Furnishings cover?
We cover all of Melbourne CBD.

I love to exercise and enjoy cross-training. I do F45, pilates, boxing, spin classes, and walking. Most of my family would use the word 'obsessed'.
