Brothers Harry and Julian Gale have spent most of their lives living under the same roof.
It’s that brotherly bond of support and healthy competition that’s seen them establish careers as the go-to agents in Brisbane’s western suburbs.
But the blood ties are now even stronger with the launch of their own business, Gale & Co. powered by UrbanX.
While the Gale boys grew up in Rockhampton, Harry moved to Brisbane and into real estate after a successful stint in the finance industry.
It wasn’t long before Harry convinced his younger brother Julian to give up his job in construction and join him selling homes rather than building them.
Harry said they loved being agents because the harder you work, the better you could do.
“There really is no limit and it’s very simple. I just know how many people I have to speak to every week to get a certain number of listings to earn the income I want.”
Harry said their old agency was a great place to start, but there came a time where he was doing all the work for a fraction of the commission.
“I realised that a massive portion of my listings were being self-generated, and we were under a system where it was more so about the team you're in rather than building your own personal brand and profile.
“Also, principals aren’t giving the support you need for the amount of commission they collect.”
They knew they wanted their own business but weren’t initially certain what it would look like.
“We thought about a few options – other franchises and that sort of thing – but we’d also been looking at UrbanX for a while and decided to have a chat with UrbanX.”
Harry said it was a turning point for the brothers. Once Dan Argent (UrbanX CEO) laid out the possibilities, the chance to be their own boss and keep more commission couldn’t be ignored.
“Having that UrbanX structure where they take care of absolutely everything so we can focus on the important tasks like lead generation, listing and selling makes a lot of sense.
“We actually get a lot more support from UrbanX than what we were getting from our old agency where we were giving up half of our commissions.”
Best of all – any fears they had about generating business as an independent agency were put to rest in the first fortnight.
“We opened two and a half weeks ago, and honestly, the number of referrals has been astounding. Our first couple of listings settle this week.
“People keep saying that it didn't matter where we worked, they just want to deal with us. And we didn’t really know that until we decided to make the move.”
Harry said they’re excited about what lays ahead.
“We’re looking forward to the opportunity to do things the way we want to do it – not adopt a one-size-fits-all approach to selling. It’s also an exciting opportunity to grow our market share… there’s really no limit for us.”
Harry said he and Julian have no reservations about recommending UrbanX to other agents eager to do their own thing too.
“They give you a framework on how to start your own business and what you need to do. If you just follow and trust that process, it works. The support UrbanX gives you in comparison to other agencies and franchises is poles apart – you won’t fully understand how much better they are until you make the switch.”
