WILLIAMS MEDIA spoke to Mark Ibrahim about how his role adds value for Coronis.
What excited you the most about joining the Coronis leadership team?
I was most excited by their depth of experience and reputation in the industry. They have achieved so much together and have exciting plans for the future that is underpinned by a truly shared vision and purpose.

I’m here to partner with the CEO and executive team to execute our 5-year plan and strategy. Working closely with the team we have mapped out some exciting goals and I see my role as being key to ensuring that we remain focussed while navigating any challenges that present along the way. I take pride in my ability to simplify the complex and to always maintain a big picture view.
What makes a good Chief Financial Officer?
I believe that the attributes that make a good Chief Financial Officer are the same for any leadership position. The ability to attract and surround yourself with talented people, to be able to execute and deliver what you say you will on a consistent basis, and to lead by example. I consider myself a generalist and tend to wear many different hats depending on what I’m doing or the problem I’m trying to solve. The role of CFO has evolved significantly in recent times due to advances in technology and this has allowed more time to be spent on value-added activities which is very exciting.

I believe the best way I can support agents and property managers is by providing strong commercial support and advice to their leaders and allow this to cascade down through every division and area of the business. I work very closely with the Executive Leadership Team and have a lot of confidence in their ability to achieve great things. As a team we compliment each other very well and collectively create a unit that is greater than the sum of its parts.
How have your previous Financial roles at Flight Centre and a prominent property developer influenced your role as Chief Financial Officer at Coronis?
I have had the privilege of working at two great organisations in my time. Flight Centre and Consolidated Properties both provided me with excellent development opportunities and I was able to learn from some high calibre leaders and entrepreneurs. Having gained exposure to a large multi-national and a large private SME has helped me develop a fairly unique lens through which I view different situations and opportunities. Additionally, I was fortunate to have recently completed an MBA at the University of Queensland. The faculty and cohort were top-class and I enjoyed every moment of the experience.

I look for people with high energy, a good attitude, and an employment history that demonstrates consistent growth.
Where do you see Coronis in 5 years?
In five years I see the Coronis Group being five times bigger. We are getting ready to turbocharge this business and I’m very excited. All segments of the business are projected to grow and that includes Sales, property management, mortgage broking, conveyancing, franchising, adjacent services and our RTO training academy. We are a data driven people powered business and we offer services covering all of our clients’ property needs. It is truly an exciting time to be a part of this business.

I love to travel and experience different cultures, cities, and cuisine. I believe that travelling helps us grow as individuals and also elevates our appreciation for home. I also really enjoy reading and often have four or more books on the go at once. Health and fitness is very important to me too and I hope to compete in the ICN natural muscle and model competition next year.
I was quite sick a few years ago due to an auto-immune disease that I have and during that time my weight ballooned to almost 130kgs. I hope to be back at my original weight of 88kgs very soon and have started seeing a personal trainer, he is one of the best in the game so I’m really excited about it. So many people take their health for granted until its too late and I think it is really important to always look after yourself.
