Kass and Peter Livesey of Sunshine Coast’s newest agency, Livesey Property Co in Tewantin said running their own agency would help them achieve their dreams.
Like many of us, Kass and Peter Livesey wanted what’s best for their family. More freedom, more personal and professional growth, and more options for their kids.
This universal goal is behind the launch of the Sunshine Coast’s newest agency, Livesey Property Co in Tewantin.
Kass started in real estate straight after school, progressing through the ranks of a small, family-run office.
“I started at the front desk and ended up being with them 10 years, and I’ve probably done just about every job in the industry – property management, business development, holiday management, sales, admin – you name it, I’ve done it.
“I really enjoyed it – I liked working with people and I loved how two days were never the same.”
Pete came from a family business himself. He was running his Dad’s tiling operation before joining Kass at her agency.
“My boss thought Pete would do really well in sales – and he has.”
The couple realised that by joining forces professionally, they’d become a powerhouse sales team.
“People often say it must be hard working with your spouse, but we complement each other really well. Pete’s punctual, ordered and just gets things done. I’m not always like that but I bring plenty else to the table with relationships and networking.”
The dynamic duo eventually moved on to a bigger agency and it proved to be a fruitful shift that lasted six years.
“We liked it there. It was a good environment, but I think we always knew we want to grow beyond working for someone else.”
Kass says there was no ‘light bulb’ moment or grand upheaval that had them wanting to go it alone. They simply knew the old model of real estate was set to change. They’d also evolved professionally and realised running their own agency would help them achieve their dreams.
“You do start to think about things. You want to promote yourself and your own brand rather than someone else’s. You also want to do things your own way, and you would have a big month of sales and then realise you were giving up a lot of the commissions from your hard work too.
“We wanted to start something for ourselves, but there are a lot of things to consider in opening a business.”
Kass said she’d been looking at support options for a while, and started following UrbanX CEO, Dan Argent, on social media (@soldbydan).
“We knew this’d be the way forward. Dan’s our style – relaxed and easy to talk to. What he’s created is exactly where real estate is heading. It’s so easy.”
Kass said the next six months will be about building their brand.
“We want to be running full steam ahead and be the number-one agents in our area.”
She said they’re thrilled to be launching with UrbanX because they’re at the forefront of industry change.
“This is the future for real estate. The franchise model where you have a boss taking a big slice of the commission when you’re the one doing all the work, developing all the relationships and putting the processes together just doesn’t make sense.
“All they really offer is a banner and an office… and we don’t even go into the office anymore. We can do all we need from home or on the road.
“There is nothing that we as agents could get from any big franchise that UrbanX couldn’t offer us. The way it’s structure and the service they provide is incredible.”
