Tuxedos and ball gowns were traded in for computers this year, with the annual gala event becoming a digital presentation as a result of COVID-19.

Innovation has been a strong theme for 2020.

The real estate sector adapted and embraced technology to continue servicing clients in challenging circumstances. 

Fifty-two winners were showcased in the REIV’s innovative interactive digital magazine, which was released this week.

Winner of the President's Award and Senior Online Auctioneer of the Year Award, Andy Reid of Sold By Auctions said he was surprised when he started getting phone calls.

"I didn't see the e-mag come out when they announced all the winners, and then I had a phone call from a friend congratulating me," said Mr Reid to WILLIAMS MEDIA.

"The auctioneer award is one I've been working towards for a few years.

"The President's Award is a confirmation that I am in this space for a reason."

Mr Reid struggled this year, not only with the lockdowns in Victoria but the news of his parents both being diagnosed with cancer within a week of each other.

"I got to be there for the last moments for my dad and mum had an operation that got her through," said Mr Reid.

"Thanks to these two awards, it is confirmation to me that we are 100 per cent allowed to be who we are."

REIV President Leah Calnan paid tribute to the resilience of Victoria's real estate industry.

“Time and time again Victorian real estate has refused to let Coronavirus win, having the 2020 REIV awards go online allowed us to celebrate our industry’s achievements safely," said Ms Calnan. 

“2020 has been an incredibly challenging year, Victorian real estate continues to prevail, and today we come together and celebrate that resilience and strength. 

“Congratulations must go to all Members, this was a tough year, but our industry is filled with survivors who refused to give in.”

REIV CEO Gil King said it was important the online awards were held. 

“While we can’t have the same in-person celebrations, the awards give us an incredible platform to support and recognise the work done by real estate professionals across Victoria,” said Mr King. 

“I am constantly amazed by the commitment shown by our Members; new techniques are being developed, and our industry is continually evolving. 

“Tonight’s winners have been rightly rewarded for their hard work, dedication and innovation.”
