One of the world's most slender towers will rise from an historic Collins Street building.
A one-hundred-year-old building will be restored as part of the Collins House residential development by Golden Age Group and Asian Pacific Group. Working with heritage consultants Lovell Chen, architects Bates Smart will restore many of the original features of the historic building, such as the ceiling cornices and medallions, opulent columns, large central window, sandstone mullions, and original bluestone cladding. The $200 million Collins House residential tower will be set back from the heritage facade, and will rise above the revitalised building. When complete, in 2018, Collins House will be one of the world's most slender towers. The 12-metre-wide tower will feature 263 refined, luxury apartments over 57 levels. Bates Smart collaborated extensively with structural engineers 4D, services engineers Murchies, and heritage consultants Lovell Chen, on the latest engineering technologies required to erect the unusually tall, slender building.
