Barangaroo South has been named Development of the Year by the Urban Taskforce.
Barangaroo South has been named Development of the Year in a unanimous decision by the Urban Taskforce.
"2017 has been a good year for quality development across Australia,” said Urban Taskforce CEO, Chris Johnson, adding that "the best of the best is Lendlease's Barangaroo South."
The Urban Taskforce represents the property development industry, and its Development Excellence Awards considers developments all over Australia. Design, economic performance, and environmental commitment and innovation are all assessed in determining which are the leading developments.
"The Barangaroo project has been the stand-out development project," said Johnson.
Johnson said the developers faced significant hurdles in completing the development.
“Our awards specifically recognise the risk developers take to realise major projects and Barangaroo South has battled planning delays, campaigns against it, uncertain economic times, yet it has triumphed as the most significant addition to Sydney’s global economic status while being an incredibly vital people space loved by Sydneysiders,” said Johnson.
The project delivers cutting-edge offices for tens of thousands of workers, a strip of waterfront restaurants, shopping, and residential apartments.
"Barangaroo South has created a successful, dynamic precinct that lifts Sydney’s position as a global city," said Johnson.
Notable features of the Barangaroo South development:
The architecture was by international firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, along with a dozen local Sydney firms.
Chairman of the jury, NSW Government Architect, Peter Poulet said “Giving the top award to Barangaroo was a unanimous decision.
"We all could see that this project was a once in a generation development that has changed Sydney forever."
