The International Brighton embarks on next chapter - Landream & V-Leader award $50 million plus construction contract to VCON.
Following a competitive construction tender, Landream and V-Leader have announced that luxury residential builders, VCON, have been awarded the $50 million plus construction contract to deliver the $120m project, The International, Brighton.
Commencing construction this month, The International, which is located on a 4,100 square metre site at 81 Bay Street, Brighton, comprises 58 residences designed by internationally acclaimed architecture practice, Carr.
The joint venture established a prerequisite that the successful builder of The International engage only local contractors in a bid to stimulate employment and economic benefits to the Victorian construction sector. As a result, the project is set to generate over 500 local jobs during the construction program.
Mitch Crawford, Senior Development Manager at Landream, said it was important that an opulent project like The International negate the offshore procurement process, and rather, prioritise local craftsmanship.
“This hyper-local approach to the construction delivery was one of the crucial factors that also gave MaxCap, who are providing the loan facility to fund the project’s construction, great confidence to back the project.
“The mandate to work exclusively with Australian trades and contractors was met with great enthusiasm by VCON who have worked closely with our design team at Carr in the past.
“VCON has an intimate understanding of the intricate detailing required to execute Carr’s vision, particularly for the façade design which adopts a materiality that is unique for this typology, being a glass reinforced concrete (GRC),” said Mr Crawford.
Rob Morton, Director at VCON, said the tender process run by Landream and V-Leader for The International was one of the more involved he had participated in.
“Landream and V-Leader have run one of the most diligent tenders I have seen in recent times: not only have they ensured the alignment of builder, architect and project, Landream and V-Leader have actually sought to understand and meet the individual delivery teams that will be constructing the project.
“Landream, V-Leader and VCON together spent eight full weeks meeting and negotiating with key trades and fabricators, to ensure that innovation, attention to detail and quality were values that drive every team that will be contributing to the delivery of The International – from window detailing to joinery. That level of consideration positions this project to be faultless in its construction.”
Many parallels exist between the project’s design inspiration and its delivery, according to Mr Crawford.
“VCON was the award-winning builder behind Jackalope on the Mornington Peninsula, also designed by Carr, which served as the inspiration for many elements of The International’s design - in particular our wine rooms, which are modelled on the vaults seen at Jackalope.
“VCON’s experience delivering Melbourne’s most prestigious private homes will no doubt bring a heightened level of finish to not only the residences of The International, but also to our communal spaces including a private dining room for 20 people, executive office suites and rooftop entertaining areas.”
Emphasis has been placed on the early delivery of The International’s ground floor retail space, to ensure that the street frontage is activated and the project’s promise of a new hospitality offering is delivered to the community and the project’s residents immediately at settlement.
The International is scheduled for completion by December 2022. Two- and three-bedroom apartments are still available, with pricing ranging from $1,315,000 to $4,290,000.
