As the Federal Government initiates processes to combat Coronavirus, large conferences are to be banned, including the REIA 2020 Awards for Excellence
The 2020 Awards for Excellence, to be held by the Real Estate Institute of Australia in April have now been postponed.
President Adrian Kelly has posted on social media an announcement advising that the awards will now be held in October.
"We have postponed (the awards) as it was the responsible course of action given the circumstances particularly as we would have had a large gathering of people flying in from all parts of the country," said Mr Kelly to WILLIAMS MEDIA.
"Also, no-one is really in festive mode at the moment which made the decision even more logical.
"There was also the cost point of view in that if we cancelled at the last minute there would have been significant funds lost.
"The venue and associated bodies eg. theming, entertainment, sponsors have also been extremely understanding of the situation and supportive of postponement."
Mr Kelly said feedback has been understanding so far and they are hoping that by combining the REIA Awards with the REINT Awards in October that Coronavirus will be under control by then.

"This will be a spectacular event on the lawns of the Mindil Beach Casino, watching a tropical sunset on a blamy Darwin night," said Mr Kelly.
Mr Kelly said for those who still wished to cancel their tickets, they could visit www.darwintickets.com.au for a refund.
Otherwise, the REIA will be in touch with those who have booked, as the event gets closer to the day.
