Sailors with disAbilities benefit from teams making their own waves including a team with McGrath Estate Agents at the annual regatta.
Now in its 26th year, Sailors with disAbilities has once again benefited from the efforts of teams raising more than $100,000 at the annual Making Waves Regatta on Sydney Harbour recently.
A squadron of 24 sailing boats raced around the harbour under sunny skies after a lead-up of wet weather.
After the event, founder David Pescud reported having a pair of very sore knees.
“I spent all day Thursday praying for good weather,” said Mr Pescud.
“He – or She heard me and delivered a beautiful day on Sydney Harbour. It was an absolute cracker.”
Patron of SWD, Malcolm Turnbull, joined in the race but seemed to have more fun back at the after-party held at Ruschutters Bay Cruising Yacht Club.
He announced all 24 entrants were winners.
The charity is sponsored by several organisations including a team from McGrath Estate Agents who have recently moved into the firm’s new Double Bay offices.

The McGrath team competed for the third year running.
“It’s humbling to be out there on the harbour with people young and old, able-bodied and disabled, all enjoying the water," said agent Kevin Mendes.
“The funds raised for SWD have an immediate impact on the lives of the children when they’re out in the Making Waves boats.”
Fellow McGrath agent and sailor Imran Hamidi said the regatta was a special day.
"Being on the harbour is something we take for granted because we’re able-bodied but to share the sport and the opportunity to sail with these kids, it’s just so special and something we’ll continue to be part of," said Mr Hamidi.
“You can’t say you’ve really raced unless you sport a wet bottom,” said Mr Pescud.
Since 1994, over 44,100 children and adults have benefited from programs run by Sailors with disABILITIES.
SWD is a non-profit organisation that acts as a catalyst for change in the lives of children and adults with disabilities, their carers and disadvantaged youth.
