Real estate owners need to be aware candidates are shopping around so Jessica Mayes, Director of Iconic Recruit offers some tips to get the best talent.
Whether you are using a recruitment agent or not, you need to make a plan and put the work in if you want to ensure you secure the best talent, said Jessica Mayes, Director of Iconic Recruit.
Recruiters can connect a business with the talent but many clients forget that quite often candidates are shopping around and if you don’t make the effort, they will go elsewhere.
"The Property industry is competitive with a high turnover which means candidates have choice and usually have plenty of boxes to tick," said Ms Mayes.
Ms Mayes lists a few things to think about when recruiting to give yourself the best possible opportunity to secure the best candidate.
1. Have clarity and structure around the role, convey what you are looking for clearly and concisely.
Provide a job description outlining what’s required and what’s expected.
2. Explain the importance of this role and how they would be making a real difference no matter how monotonous some of the tasks may be.
Role satisfaction is an important element in retaining long-term and dedicated team members.
3. Offer perks, what do you offer that stands out from the crowd? Whether that is flexibility, support and training, career progression, procedures, technology, culture and environment.
Perks play an important role in the decision-making process to candidates.
4. Share your vision and goals for this role and/or the company, candidates like to see growth ahead.
When it comes to interview, whether it’s one or three, there are important things to remember during this stage that might just make all the difference of you securing that perfect candidate.
1. An interview is not one sided, so it’s important to make a positive impression on the candidate no matter what the outcome.
People talk, especially in our industry so if all your interview felt like was a grilling that left the candidate feeling belittled, it might not leave the best taste in their mouth about your company!
2. Dedicate time to conduct the interview, 30 to 60 minutes is classified as a good amount of time spent.
3. Structure your interview and aim for a constructive conversation that leaves the candidate feeling they have been able to perform at their best and they have given you the information you need.
4. Be honest and upfront, communication is everything and ensures you are securing the best candidate for the job long term.
5. Take the time to explain how the interview and selection process works for your company.
Ms Mayes said feedback provided in an efficient time frame and regular communication is important to keep the candidate engaged and excited, especially if your recruitment process is longer than one interview.
