The vision of builder Stephen Barry has allowed a "worker's cottage" in Paddington, Brisbane to be transformed into a five-bedroom luxury home with views of the city.
Stephen Barry has made it his business to live ‘out of town’ most of his life.
A successful builder, with two builder sons in the family business Stephen Barry Constructions, everything was moving according to plan, and it seemed like a good time to mix things up a bit and he thought it might be time to move into the city.
He bought a modest ”workers cottage”, at 40 View Street in Paddington, which it would be fair to say was dwarfed by its more contemporary neighbours.
Two bedrooms, one bathroom and, as the advertisement said, enormous potential.
With the help of architect Chris Brumby from Big House Little House, the Barry family lifted the cottage and proceeded to build a brand new home beneath, above and around it.
The master suite, complete with a walk-in-robe and lavish ensuite, was constructed with large glass windows and a private deck allowing the occupier to take advantage of elevated city views.
There is also an adjoining hidden built-in-bar and dish-drawer nearby, making it the perfect parent's retreat.
40 View Street, Paddington, which is being offered for sale through Ray White Paddington. As seen on Luxury List.
Upstairs also contains three additional bedrooms with built-in-robes, the family bathroom and a second living area.
The lower-level contains access to the secure, three-car internal garage with epoxy flooring and a fully-insulated wine tasting room and cellar with a bespoke steel-framed glazed feature wall.
Other features of this impressive home include a generously-proportioned home office, a separate media room, ducted and split-system air-conditioning throughout, Zip-tap boiling and chilled sparkling water taps, a gas fireplace, a Cambrian Black Leather marble detailing, French Oak wide timber floorboards and hand-cut Southern Highlands Boral Brick fireplace.
It may sound too good to be true, but for Mr Barry, there is just one problem - it isn't in the country.
"I just need that open space," he said.
The family can still be found on-site, finishing off the very last details before new potential buyers start their inspections of the home, as it comes to the market under the stewardship of Ray White Paddington’s Judi O’Dea.
