Carlton Heres has taken out the top award at the 2018 Real Estate Institute of Tasmania (REIT) Senior Auctioneer Competition held overnight.
Carlton Heres from Harcourts Launceston emerged victorious at the 2018 REIT Senior Auctioneering Competition held overnight in Hobart.
He told WILLIAMS MEDIA he was quite surprised to win the award.
"I've only been in the industry for about eighteen months now, so I was quite surprised to win the award. I've done quite a few auctions now with Jeremy Wilkinson from Harcourts Launceston, so I'm really getting a feel for it and enjoying it. I just thought I'd have a crack and I was fortunate enough to win, so I was quite happy about it!" he said.
The talented young agent is no stranger to winning prestigious awards - he previously took out the REIT Schools Auction Championships in 2016, when he was in his final year of high school. He then went on to win the inaugural Australasian Schools Competition in Alice Springs.

He told WILLIAMS MEDIA that the mentoring he received during this time was extremely beneficial.
"I went through that process when I was in my final years of high school. It really gives young people a sense of what the industry is about because when you're on the outside looking in, you don't really know what's involved," he said.
"The training and mentoring process is all about developing who you are as a person and your communication skills, so it's been very beneficial in that way. It's introduced me to the real estate industry which has allowed me to become employed by one of the best real estate agents in Tasmania," he said.
Held at the Hobart Conference Centre, Mark Berry, the CEO of REIT, told WILLIAMS MEDIA that over 100 REIT members watched on as the four competitors - Jim Playsted of Knight Frank Hobart, Andrew de Bomford of Harcourts Burnie, Conor Canning of Harcourts Hobart and Carlton Heres of Harcourts Launceston - battled it out.
Andrew de Bomford, who won last years' awards was runner up in the senior competition.
Mr. Heres will now go on to represent Tasmania in the Australasian Auctioneering Competition in New Zealand to be held in October.
