Three Australian projects won top prize in their category at the WAN awards, announced in London last week.
The winners of the World Architecture News Awards were announced in London last week, with three Australian projects taking out the top prize in their category.
Commercial architecture
Glasshouse at Goonoo Goonoo Station
Goonoo Goonoo, Australia
Firm: Tanner Kibble Denton Architects
Glasshouse at Goonoo Goonoo Station consists of the adaptive re-use of the property’s historic buildings, first built in around 1841. The buildings will be used for high-end accommodation and functions.
Education architecture
Mandeville Centre (pictured below)
Loreto Toorak, Toorak, Australia
Firm: Architectus
"The Mandeville Centre presents an elegant and highly accomplished exercise in architectural fundamentals."

Sport in architecture
The Judith Poole Sports Hall
Wahroonga, Sydney, Australia
Firm: Allen Jack+Cottier
Allen Jack+Cottier’s (AJ+C) multi-purpose sports and assembly hall and sports field, completed in February 2015 is located at Abbotsleigh Senior School, a private girl’s school based in Wahroonga, 25 kilometres north of Sydney’s downtown area.
The jury described the project as “a brave response to an education building.”
