Melbourne tops the list while Adelaide comes in at number five.
Melbourne has been voted the world's most liveable city for a fifth-straight year in the annual Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index. The survey rated 140 cities in the areas of health care, education, stability, culture and environment and infrastructure.
Melbourne is Australia’s fastest growing capital, and the only city in the world to win the coveted survey five times. "Melbourne has the best of everything and this title proves it. This is an achievement all Victorians can be proud of," said Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews. Melbourne Mayor Robert Doyle said he was "very proud" of the accolade.
The five most liveable cities were Melbourne, Vienna, Vancouver, Toronto and Adelaide.
"Those that score best tend to be mid-sized cities in wealthier countries with a relatively low population density," the EIU report said. "These can foster a range of recreational activities without leading to high crime levels or overburdened infrastructure."
