The winners of the Australian Interior Design Award 2015 were announced on Friday night.
A gracious Victorian villa in Sydney’s Woollahra that was extended and renovated was named the best residential design at the 2015 Australian Interior Design Awards on Friday night. Smart Design Studio won the award for its transformation of ‘Orama’ on Jersey Road. The firm's brief was to enhance and expand the building to create "a deeply comfortable family home" which also allowed the owner to display their incredible art collection.
The award for best residential decoration was won by architect Steven Whiting of Whiting Architects for a renovation and extension on his own home in Kerferd Place, Albert Park. Whiting aimed to create a ‘holiday house in the city’ by infusing a relaxed weekender atmosphere into an urban family home. "This is an incredibly calm and balanced interior that doesn't rely on hero or large signature elements," the jury citation said. "Instead, each element comes together to play its part in creating a layered home, reinforcing the bigger idea behind the home."
