Anzac Day is this Saturday, and real estate institutes around the country have asked their members not to conduct auctions or inspections on the day.
Would you attend an auction this Saturday morning on Anzac Day? The real estate profession is prohibited from doing business on Anzac Day in Queensland, but no such laws exist in Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia or South Australia. Real estate institutes in those states have asked members not to work on Anzac Day, at least not before 1pm. "It's up to your discretion whether you hold home opens this Saturday, but be mindful to hold them after the ANZAC services," the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia has told its members via email.
"This is a very difficult thing to manage, particularly when real estate agents are juggling the expectations of clients to whom ANZAC Day does not have the same significance," Amanda Lynch, CEO of the Real Estate Institute of Australia, told The Australian Financial Review. "We need a nationally consistent position on ANZAC Day opening hours, to clear up the confusion and provide guidelines that promote respect for this national day of significance."
