When it comes to their homes, men and women have different priorities.
It seems gender does play a role in real estate preferences, but it's not what you might think. Men are more likely to value granite countertops, kitchen islands and walk-in wardrobes, while women are more concerned with stairs, according to a new survey.
The 2013 Home Features Survey from the National Association of Realtors, the largest trade association in North America, found that 32% of single men, compared with 21% of single women, cited new kitchen appliances when asked what features were “very important” in a home. Similarly, granite countertops were a must-have for 24% of men, but only 11% of women, and 19% of men wanted a kitchen island, compared with 8% of women, reports The Wall Street Journal.
When it comes to clothes storage, more men than women said a walk-in wardrobe was very important, with 38% to 29%. Women, meanwhile, values single-level homes more strongly, with 31% identifying them as crucial, versus 18% of men.
