PM survives a crucial leadership vote, with the Liberal party room deciding not to open up the top positions to a vote.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott has retained the leadership of the Coalition government this morning with MPs and senators voting 61-39 against a spill motion.
In announcing the result to the media, Liberal Party chief whip Philip Ruddock said, "That seems to me to resolve the matter." However, with 39 MPs (out of 101 who were present) essentially casting a vote of no confidence in him, Abbott's troubles are far from over.
