I certainly don't and obviously I’m not the only one. I can’t remember the smell, but I do remember it wasn’t good – understandable when the area was a hub for livestock sales, processing and apparently the main culprit – the feedlot facility that went with it.
But that was back in the 1980’s and a lot has changed since then, and there’s a lot more to come, including a projected $8 Billion+ in infrastructure alone between Cannon Hill and the Australia Trade Coast, bringing 50,000 new jobs over the next 10 years.
Anthony Johns, developer of Emporium and much more, picked up on the future potential of the area years ago, but he’s good at that. Since then, Brisbane City Council, a bunch of multi-nationals corporations and a whole lot of savvy Gen Y’s and young professionals have started following suit.
And why wouldn’t they! As trends shift towards urban living, Cannon Hill continues to offer local access to great public transport including the Citytrain network, employment, retail, recreation and leisure activities. Local offerings, including the BCC community links golf course currently under construction, coupled with Cannon Hill’s proximity to the CBD and access to arterial roads, the airport and both coasts continues to support future development and employment in the area, and therefore demand for residential property. Go sniff around, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
