Barbara Wolveridge of Queensland Sotheby's International Realty - Port Douglas and Callum Jones of The Pink Company Port Douglas discuss the Port Douglas property market and what's for sale.
Port Douglas is a beautiful holiday destination on the Coral Sea in far north Queensland.
Most of the homeowners are from interstate - Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and New Zealand.
According to Barbara Wolveridge of Queensland Sotheby's International Realty - Port Douglas, the buyers are very rarely locals who have grown up in the area.
“Everyone who lives here is from somewhere,” said Ms Wolveridge.
“In Port Douglas we have perfect weather for nine months of the year.
“You can’t say that about too many capital cities in Australia or New Zealand."
Ms Wolveridge told WILLIAMS MEDIA there was a slow start to the season but it has picked up beautifully.
“We will have longevity to the season.
“Sometimes it starts slow like this year, and then speeds up."
Ms Wolveridge said people think there are many homes on the market all the time, but there are a lot of properties bought and sold.
“There are about six really good agencies in this town, and everyone does really well."
However, she said most people are buying their second or third home, so houses stay on the market for a longer period of time.

“At anytime you might have a property on the market for two to three months.
“In saying that, I listed one on Friday and sold on Saturday!”
Callum Jones of The Pink Company Port Douglas agrees that it has been a slow start to the year.
“Last year we saw four properties in excess of $5 million dollars sold,” Mr Jones told WILLIAMS MEDIA.
“We expect the next two months to pick up again, as it is our busiest time for high end sales.
“It’s spring, and most of our buyers are coming up out of Melbourne and Sydney.

He said anyone that knows the area will know the house.

“It’s a huge parcel of land with no direct neighbours, and no adjacent properties.
“This is rare for anywhere in Australia.”

Mr Jones said the home is suitable for someone basing themselves in Port Douglas, and would make a very nice family estate.
“They will have the ability to rent the guest house, or sell it off.
“It creates a lot of options for people.”

Garth Chapman Traditional Queenslanders, a company renowned for building Queenslander style homes, designed both houses.
There are no other homes exactly the same in Australia, they are all custom made.
Lance Clark of Garth Chapman Traditional Queenslanders told WILLIAMS MEDIA “Those two houses were both designed from the ground up.”
“I worked in conjunction with the clients to develop that design, taking on board their ideas and making suggestions in terms of orientation, climate, and views.”
Mr Chapman said many people see the company’s homes and think they are original restored Queenslanders.
“We take a lot of trouble to build in features which reflect original Queenslanders.
“The main home was actually only designed in 2012 and the second in 2014.”
