Sydney’s residential vacancy rate continues to support those seeking rental accommodation, says the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales.

The March 2018 REINSW Vacancy Rate Survey showed that rental accommodation availability fell 0.1 percentage points to 2.2 per cent in the Sydney metropolitan area.

“A vacancy rate above 2 per cent is positive for those seeking rental properties,” said REINSW president Leanne Pilkington.

• Outer Sydney vacancy rates remained steady.
• Middle Sydney's vacancy rates rose 0.1 percentage points to 2.6 per cent.
• Inner Sydney's vacancy rate was up 0.1 percentage point to 1.9 per cent.

In the Hunter, vacancy rates rose 0.1 percentage points to 1.6 per cent. Newcastle's rate climbed up 0.4 percentage points.

In regional NSW:

• Northern Rivers rose 0.2 percentage points to 1.2 per cent
• Murrumbidgee increased 0.2 percentage points to 1.0, and
• New England dropped 0.9 percentage points to 1.9 per cent.
