More auctions were held across Australia last week than ever before, with almost 4,000 homes listed to go under the hammer.
"The Saturday before Easter traditionally sees high levels of auction numbers, but this year it was a record breaker with 3,967 being the highest number of auctions ever held," Leanne Pilkington, president of the REINSW told WILLIAMS MEDIA.
The previous record was set in November 2014, when 3,908 auction were held, she said.
"In Sydney we saw 1,359 auctions with a preliminary clearance rate of 66.2 per cent," said Pilkington.
"Agents are all telling me how busy they are," she said.
Vanessa Kim, an agent with Strathfield Partners Real Estate, told WILLIAMS MEDIA she hasn't seen volumes as strong as last year, but she is still achieving very strong results.
A six-bedroom mansion at 64 Redmyre Road, Strathfield, didn't accept an offer of $5.2 million late last year, but sold on the weekend at auction for $5.9 million. Kim said there were nine registered bidders.

Kim said some sellers are still holding back from selling because prices have softened, but they are reassured by the fact they will be able to buy something for an affordable price if they do sell.
"Some people are selling because they can find another property for an affordable price," she said.

Melbourne auctions
REIV CEO Gil King told WILLIAMS MEDIA that “buyers were spoiled for choice this weekend with what is expected to be a record number of auctions held across the state, and a high level of negotiation post auction.”
“More than 2,000 auctions were scheduled last week and once final figures are announced on Wednesday, we are expecting it to be a record for the most homes auctioned in a single week, weekend and day," he said.
King said 1,468 auctions were reported to the REIV last weekend, with the REIV recording a preliminary clearance rate of 67 per cent.
While volumes were up on the same period last year, the clearance rate was significantly lower than the 81 per cent recorded in 2017.
Reservoir and Richmond had the highest number of auction sales last week with 18 and 16 properties selling under the hammer respectively.
Vendors in Richmond and Cheltenham experienced strong results under the hammer with clearance rates of 80 and 75 per cent respectively.
Outer northern suburbs experienced the strongest clearance rate last week (83 per cent), with Craigieburn, Epping, and South Morang all performing well
On a municipality level, Boroondara had the highest number of properties sold under the hammer this weekend with 69 auction sales.
King said volumes "drop off significantly this Easter long weekend with around 100 auctions scheduled."
