Karl Secondis of One Real Estate, Darwin, has been a successful agent for more than 20 years. Today he is trying something new: his property at 1/34 George Crescent, Fannie Bay, is open for inspection from 7am until 7pm.
Well known Darwin agent, Karl Secondis of One Real Estate, wanted to try something "a little bit different" when he listed a four-bedroom townhouse in Darwin's exclusive Fannie Bay to open for a 12-hour inspection.
Secondis told SCHWARTZWILLIAMS the Darwin market was "prickly" at the moment, and by having the stylish, architect-designed townhouses open from 7am until 7pm today he hopes to generate interest and provide viewers with the opportunity to see the property when they choose and at different times of the day.
Secondis said the 12-hour open house was somewhat of a "social experiment", but he hopes it will help to generate a good sale for the owners.
Early signs have been positive. A Facebook video that Secondis posted on Thursday about the open house has already had 8,400 views. Champagne will be served at the open house after 5pm.
"We're hoping we'll get some people through," he said, but admitted how successful the open house will be is "a bit of an unknown".
The townhouse is one of only four designed by the architect-developer Savvas P Savvas. Two sold last year for just under $1.3 million and $1.375 million, which were Fannie Bay suburb records for 2016. With the developer planning his next project, the third townhouse has now been placed on the market.
Secondis said the townhouse at 1/34 George Crescent, Fannie Bay, will appeal to downsizers who are ready to move out of the family home, but still want space for friends and family, and would prefer not to be in an apartment.
Karl Secondis on the Darwin market
Secondis said the Darwin market has been soft, but there are great buying opportunities considering that interest rates remain low and properties are selling for more affordable prices.
Secondis said the market is especially favourable for first-home buyers, who are exempt from stamp duty for properties up to $650,000 in the Northern Territory.
