Ikea's innovation lab, Copenhagen-based Space 10, has invented a DIY garden that is designed to help city dwellers grow more of their own food.
Early designs were shown around the world, but when requests for the product began to flow through, the architects, Mads-Ulrik Husum and Sine Lindholm, realised the traidtional Ikea business model, which involves shipping huge volumes of materials around the world, didn't fit with the philosophy of the product.
The Growroom pattern and instructions were consequently released on the web for free as open source, with the idea that anyone anywhere, with a few basic tools, can build their own version of The Growroom, and begin cultivating food in their urban neighbourhood.
If you're tempted to build The Growroom yourself, the cutting files can be found here and the instructions and more information are available here.
