Japan is set for a bumper ski season. Here are our picks on where to stay in the snow this Christmas.
Tokyo has seen its first November snow in 54 years. While the white stuff in the city was an inconvenience for Tokyo’s slick underground railway, the November dump augers well for a bumper snow season in the ski villages of Niseko, Hakuba and Nozawa Onsen.
Hirafu Village, Niseko, has experienced two massive dumps in the last 48 hours totalling over 50cm, with further falls predicted for early next week.
Winter is coming for Japan, and with so much powder, coupled with easy access to the ski fields, snow-loving Australians will want to share in the excitement.
There has been speculation that ski lifts in Niseko will grind into gear as early as next week.
We have selected and linked below some of our favourite ski chalets and snow homes in which to stay this season.
